It’s the first day of 2017, and, try as I might, I can’t seem to jazz myself up enough to reflect on the past year and muse on the coming one.

Part of this lies in my personal preference of being present and savoring moments; part of it, from a lack of desire to dwell on the negatives, although there were, too, a great many positives for me and some exciting things in store for the year ahead; and if I’m being completely honest, part of it is I just returned back from vacation and I’m still in a leisurely (read: lazy) mode and don’t much feel like doing the work of exploring my thoughts and feelings to articulate them to you fine folk.

So, instead, let me leave you all with the words from a poem I recently read by Li Shangyin. It is originally Chinese, although the English translation is still beautiful:

The fading sunlight holds infinite beauty
Though it is so close to the day’s end.

Sums things up nicely enough for me.
